Named for the wild mustangs that roamed the hills of California’s Central Coast, Wild Horse is one of the region’s pioneering producers. Founded in Paso Robles in 1981, the winery garnered a cult following when in 1983, we made a bold move to make a Pinot Noir from the little-known region of Santa Maria Valley, helping put Santa Barbara Pinot Noir on the map decades before its domestic explosion. That wine is now credited as one of the first to prove Santa Barbara belonged in the conversation of great Pinot Noir regions.
As the winery grew, we became the poster child for the rebellious Central Coast image—innovative, defiant, yet with quality that demanded being taken seriously. Today, Wild Horse focuses on that same quality and complexity, proving that Santa Barbara is—and will remain—one of the world’s great Pinot Noir regions.

Santa Barbara County is one of the few places in California where the mountains run East to West. That single detail changes everything. Cool Pacific air moves inland instead of getting blocked by mountains, the growing season stretches long and slow, and the grapes retain what warmer regions struggle to: fresh red fruit, layered aromatics, and the kind of finish that lingers without being overbearing.
