2011 Wild Horse Unbridled Zinfandel Paso Robles
4 In Stock
With aromas of fresh strawberries and pepper, this Zinfandel is reminiscent of cooler climate Zinfandel, but has a richness that the east side of Paso Robles offers. Strawberry and raspberry flavors lead in to dried figs with hints of spice and vanilla. Luscious balanced acidity leaves you wanting more, and makes for a great pairing with butternut squash raviolis and sage mascarpone sauce.
From a south-facing hillside block at the Keyes Canyon Vineyard on the east side of Paso Robles, this Zinfandel was harvested from the morning side of the vineyard rows only. Large diurnal swings make for hot days and very cool nights. The morning side fruit is allowed to ripen during the coolest part of the day, and is then shaded during the warmest part of the day. Ripening during the cooler part of day preserves the brighter fruit characters making for a more elegant style of Zinfandel.
The fruit was hand picked into half ton bins from Keyes Canyon Vineyard and delivered to the winery. After destemming, the fruit was crushed whole berry and placed into a small open top fermenter, and then punched down by hand two times per day throughout fermentation. Grapes were pressed at dryness and then racked one time off of heavy solids to barrel for the completion of malolactic fermentation and ageing. This wine aged for 12 months in a mixture of 40% new French, Hungarian, and American oak barrels.
