2013 Wild Horse Malvasia Bianca San Bernabe
95% Malvasia Bianca & 5% Verdelho
Aromas of citrus, Meyer lemon zest, pineapple are followed by flavors of lychee and kiwi. The finish is balanced and crisp.
In 2013, Mother Nature provided an excellent grape growing producing average to slightly above average yields. For Malvasia, conditions were just about ideal producing a fruit forward, completely balanced wine.
These Malvasia Bianca grapes were 100% hand harvested in the early-morning in San Bernabe Vineyard in southern Monterey County. Upon delivery to the winery, the grapes were delivered whole cluster and gently squeezed using a press. Hard press was separated from free run and treated separately. The juice was fermented in stainless steel tank until dryness where it was kept cold until bottling. A small amount of Verdelho, from our estate, was blended with the Malvasia enhancing the juiciness contributing to the depth of the blend.
Picked at a slightly higher brix level, the 2013 Malvasia is faintly different than the 2012 with heightened aromas full of lemon citrus and pineapple followed by the usual lychee and kiwi this wine typically exhibits. Taste is stellar and exceptionally pleasing on a hot summer day.
This delicious wine pairs perfectly with fish tacos, sushi, bouillabaisse, fresh crab and pasta dishes with cream sauces. It also goes well with cheeses like manchego or Asiago. For an additional treat, try it with any dessert with a flaky crust.
